The Berlin Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts) hosted transmediale editions 2006 and 2007. Founded in 1696, Akademie der Künste is one of the oldest cultural institutes in Europe. It is an international community of artists and has a current total of 400 members in its six Sections (Visual Arts, Architecture, Music, Literature, Performing Arts, Film and Media Art). The Akademie der Künste is an exhibition and event location, a meeting place for artists and people interested in the arts, where public debates on art and cultural policy take place.
transmediale is a Berlin-based festival and year-round project that draws out new connections between art, culture and technology. All activities of transmediale aim at fostering a critical understanding of contemporary culture and politics as saturated by media technologies.
In the course of its history, starting in 1988, the annual transmediale festival has turned into an essential event in the calendar of media art professionals, artists, activists and students from all over the world.

Die Akademie der Künste war der Veranstaltungsort der transmediale Ausgaben 2006 und 2007. Gegründet im Jahre 1696 gehört die Akademie der Künste in Berlin zu den ältesten europäischen Kulturinstituten. Sie ist eine internationale Gemeinschaft von Künstlern und hat in ihren sechs Sektionen Bildende Kunst, Baukunst, Musik, Literatur, Darstellende Kunst, Film- und Medienkunst derzeit insgesamt 423 Mitglieder. Die Akademie der Künste ist ein Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsort, eine Stätte der Begegnung von Künstlern und Kunstinteressierten.
Die transmediale ist ein Festival und ganzjähriges Projekt in Berlin, das neue Verbindungen zwischen Kunst, Kultur und Technologie herausstellt. Das Ziel der Aktivitäten der transmediale ist es, ein kritisches Verständnis der gegenwärtigen, von Medientechnologien geprägten Kultur und Politik zu festigen. Im Laufe seiner Geschichte seit der Gründung 1988 hat sich das Festival zu einem der wichtigsten Events in den Kalendern von Medienkunstexperten, Künstlern, Aktivisten und Studenten aus aller Welt etabliert.
